Description
Designed for use directly with computers and iOS devices, the MK 4 Digital from Sennheiser is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone operating in a cardioid polar pattern. Its analog components are modeled on the Sennheiser MK 4, so it features the same 24-carat gold-plated diaphragm, rugged metal housing, 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, and a 141 SPL, making it suitable for guitars, vocals, amplifiers, percussion, and more.
Where this microphone differs is on the digital side: Sennheiser has teamed up with Apogee to build a PureDigital converter directly into the microphone. This converter captures audio at high resolutions and sample rates—up to 24-bit / 94 kHz—and ports audio directly into computers and iOS devices, utilizing a digital preamp to ensure a quality signal. To provide connecting options, a lightning cable and a USB cable are included, as are a swivel mount and a pouch for transporting the mic. The mic itself offers a USB Type-A port for connecting to your computer or apposite mobile device.
This mic's digital specs and analog heft make it quite suitable for podcasters and journalists, giving such practitioners the warmth and detail of a condenser microphone. The mic itself was constructed in Germany, which should inspire confidence in the meticulous precision of its design. So if you're in the business of creating content from your project studio—be it musical, journalistic, or anywhere in between—the sturdy design, richly clear sound, and high-quality conversion of this microphone is something which might distinguish you from the pack.
Computer & iOS Compatibility
The microphone can be used with common media-production programs such as Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Pro Tools, or Ableton Live. It can also interface with iOS recording apps such as GarageBand and Apogee MetaRecorder. The microphone works with Music Memos and any Core Audio Apps on iOS and Mac. On Windows computers it works with ASIO (with freeware driver Asio4all), MME/Direct Sound, and WASAPI-based audio applications.
